The mecha IP took a backseat after Dark Souls exploded in popularity, and Fires of Rubicon was the first entry in roughly a decade. The story is pretty good too, and it introduces a new playable duo who serve as great counterparts to Ratchet and Clank.įromSoftware has more to offer than just Soulslikes, and Armored Core has been a staple of the developer's portfolio for decades. While simple, the gunplay is an absolute blast, and it is enhanced by a decent progression system. Rift Apart is, ultimately, just another Ratchet & Clank adventure, albeit one fine-tuned and polished to near perfection. Ratchet & Clank has always blended third-person shooter gameplay with 3D platforming set in gorgeous worlds that present some room for exploration, even if the stories are generally quite linear. This release marks the first time the long-running franchise has been available natively on platforms such as Steam, and while newcomers might feel anxious about jumping into the 16th entry in the series, Rift Apart works fairly well as a gateway project. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart weathered the procedure better than something like The Last of Us Part 1, and Insomniac's game holds up beautifully on PC. Now, they have not all survived the transition in one piece, but most of them are at least in playable states. Slowly but surely, Sony has been bringing its console exclusives to PC.
